The UU Society of Coralville members and friends participated in three service learning trips to the Chico Mendes Reforestation Project in the Guatemalan highlands. In 2016 and 2018 the volunteer groups helped to plant over 2,000 trees. The trees sequester carbon, filter rainwater that goes to the nearby stream, and provide habitat for rare birds and other wildlife.
Armando Lopez, director of the Chico Mendes Reforestation Project, recently sent a video showing how the trees have grown from inches-high saplings. He express his gratitude for the support the UU Society has provided (subtitles provided).
